Abstract

Polypharmacy, defined as the simultaneous use of multiple medications by a single patient, is a growing concern in healthcare, particularly among older adults and those with chronic conditions. While it is often necessary for managing complex medical needs, polypharmacy poses significant challenges, including adverse drug reactions (ADRs), drug-drug interactions, medication non-adherence, and increased healthcare costs. Effective management strategies, such as medication reconciliation, deprescribing, and patient education, can mitigate these risks. This article explores the causes, risks, and strategies for managing polypharmacy, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to improve patient outcomes.
