Cardiovascular Pharmacology: Drugs for the Heart and Blood Vessels
Main Article Content
Abstract
Cardiovascular pharmacology focuses on the study of drugs that target the heart and blood vessels to manage and treat various cardiovascular conditions. This field encompasses a wide array of medications, including antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, and lipid-lowering agents. These drugs are pivotal in controlling conditions such as hypertension, heart failure, arrhythmias, and atherosclerosis, thereby reducing morbidity and mortality associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). This article explores the classification, mechanisms of action, clinical applications, and side effects of these drugs, providing insights into their role in improving cardiovascular health. Additionally, the challenges and advancements in cardiovascular pharmacology are discussed, emphasizing its importance in contemporary medicine.
