The Role of Pharmacy in the Management and Distribution of Antibiotics
Main Article Content
Abstract
There is a global crisis of antimicrobial resistance, and the problem is substantial within primary care. Antibiotics are used to treat both bacterial infections and symptoms associated with viral infections. Antibiotic misuse and resistance have been attributed to inadequate training, particularly at the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching levels. This interdisciplinary qualitative research examines hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. We investigate both the individual patient and the wider public health care implications concerning antibiotic distribution, as well as the role of the pharmacy staff involved in the management of antibiotic administration. Ethical approval was obtained, and field observation was shared with all involved, and individual confidential interviews were conducted at a time to suit the pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
