The Future of Radiology: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality in Imaging
Main Article Content
Abstract
The value of radiologists has changed significantly in the past two decades due to rapid technological advances. Automated computer-aided detection systems have reduced radiologists’ workloads but fatigue and high false positive rates accompany these systems. Cloud-based solutions are now helping radiologists with decision-making and image triage tools, but these cloud-based solutions were traditionally not viable for on-premise implementations due to high cost and long-term infra provisioning and management. AI-based radiology decision-support tools using deep learning are now available on-premise to assist in better diagnosis, optimized study prioritization, and worklist management. However, existing systems to assimilate and visualize AI report data in a viewer are still clunky, and the ideal method to visualize relevant report data using AR is largely unaddressed in the literature (Banerjee et al., 2023).
