Abstract

Interdisciplinary collaboration between Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and nurses plays a vital role in acute care delivery. Both groups provide complementary expertise: EMTs ensure rapid assessment and stabilization in pre-hospital environments, while nurses continue critical care upon hospital arrival. This paper highlights the significance of effective teamwork, communication, and shared decision-making between EMTs and nurses in improving patient outcomes. A rapid review of recent literature demonstrates that structured collaboration reduces errors, enhances safety, and leads to higher patient satisfaction. Barriers such as role ambiguity, professional hierarchies, and communication gaps remain challenges but can be mitigated by training, supportive policies, and the use of technology. This paper provides an overview of ten key discussion areas relevant to EMT-nurse collaboration in acute care settings.
