Abstract

The design and development of a small, dualband, reconfigurable circular monopole antenna that operates at 2.4 GHz and 5.5 GHz and is optimized for wireless applications is presented in this paper. To improve impedance bandwidth and radiation stability, the antenna uses a linefed circular patch that is made on a FR4 substrate with a partially tapered ground plane. To allow for flexible frequency reconfiguration, switching diodes are embedded at the intersections of the two meander slots that are symmetrically etched on either side of the patch. The antenna can achieve multiple operating modes with stable gain performance, high return loss, and consistent VSWR (< 2) by varying the diode states.Strong agreement is found between measurements from fabricated prototypes and electromagnetic simulations, with only slight frequency shifts attributable to fabrication tolerances. The suggested antenna achieves competitive performance in terms of compactness, gain, and operational flexibility, according to a comparative analysis with recent literature. The design is wellsuited for WLAN, Internet of Things, and emerging multistandard wireless communication systems because of its affordable fabrication, small form factor, and versatility.
