Abstract

Healthcare workers (HCWs) face significant occupational risks due to exposure to infectious agents in hospital environments. This paper examines evidence-based infection control practices designed to minimize these risks and protect both healthcare personnel and patients. Through analysis of current literature and established guidelines, this study identifies key strategies including standard precautions, personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, hand hygiene practices, vaccination programs, and environmental controls. The implementation of comprehensive infection control programs demonstrates significant reduction in healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and occupational exposures. However, challenges remain in ensuring consistent adherence to protocols, adequate training, and resource allocation. This paper provides recommendations for healthcare institutions to develop robust infection control frameworks that prioritize worker safety while maintaining quality patient care.
