Abstract

Stress is an inherent aspect of life, and individuals from nearly all professions encounter it. In today's environment, employers are thoroughly investigating the stress management issues that lead to decreased job performance among academic staff, which stem from dissatisfaction and high turnover rates from the organization goals and objectives. The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of work related stress on the output and loyalty of academic staff from various deemed universities in Chennai. A field study was executed using a questionnaire as the primary means of data collection. The data was analyzed through statistical methods using SPSS to calculate chi-square. The findings indicated that work related stress significantly influences employee output. Moreover, work related stress also affects academic staff' loyalty. When high levels of stress persist without managerial intervention, it results in diminished employee performance, jeopardizing the organization's reputation and leading to the loss of skilled academic staff. Such scenarios require prompt attention from organizational management to implement effective stress management strategies aimed at improving employee satisfaction and overall performance. It is recommended that management take corrective actions to alleviate the long-term effects of work related stress. For this purpose, management should initiate research programs to enhance the managerial and technical skills of academic staff.
