Abstract
Background: In the present times anesthesia is no longer merely a method for managing pain but a method for allowing the dentist to side step the influences of fear, anxiety, and non-compliance. Whereas decisions to use anesthetic techniques and on the quality of anesthesia is an important clinical decision relating to the patient experience, patient safety, and successful treatment; decisions when to use an anesthetic is a conversation similar but separate that involves an important clinical decision related to the patient family and the clinical procedure to render care, here the quality of anesthesia plays an important role. This present study will focus on the importance and quality of anesthesia used for dental treatment and surgery.
Research Methodology: This present study is based on exploratory research design and collects the information from studies published in PubMed, Scopus, etc. and other related reports. Studies are selected finalized on the basis of predefined criteria of inclusion and exclusion using a PRISMA framework.
Results: Local anesthesia (LA) remains the most commonly practiced method. General anesthesia (GA) is the most preferred modality in pediatric dentistry, employing GA in 60–70% of duration for extensive cases.
Conclusion: With the evolution of anaesthesia practice due to current and future technology, many innovations have entered the marketplace, such as computer controlled delivery devices, ultrasound guided nerve blocks, and monitoring devices that make the performance of anaesthesia more accurate, comfortable, and safe. In order to address the issues related to quality anesthesia, a collaborative approach will be required between policy makers, educators, and practicing clinician to ensure contributing to anesthesia is an integral component of the collective changes as part of Vision 2030.
