Abstract

Comprehensive dental care under general anesthesia (GA) is essential for patients with severe dental anxiety, extensive treatment needs, pediatric patients, individuals with special healthcare needs, or those unable to tolerate conventional dental procedures. Successful delivery of dental treatment under GA requires meticulous collaboration between dentists, dental hygienists, dental technicians, radiologists, medical nurses, and operating theatre (OT) technicians. This article explores the multidisciplinary approach, preoperative assessment, intraoperative management, postoperative care, and innovations in dental care under GA. Key topics include the roles and responsibilities of each team member, patient safety protocols, anesthesia considerations, radiological support, laboratory and prosthetic workflows, and postoperative recovery strategies. The importance of interprofessional collaboration, standard operating procedures, and continuous training is emphasized to optimize patient outcomes. Challenges, risk mitigation strategies, and future directions—including technological innovations and minimally invasive techniques—are also discussed. By adopting a collaborative and patient-centered approach, dental care under GA can be performed safely, efficiently, and effectively, ensuring high-quality outcomes in complex clinical scenarios.
