Housing for Migrants in Suburban Areas of Ho Chi Minh City: From Income Levels to the Affordability of Migrants

Abstract
In the context of rapid urbanization and increasing mechanical population growth, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is under a lot of pressure on technical and social infrastructure, especially housing for migrant workers. This workforce plays an important role in the socio-economic development of the city, but faces significant difficulties in accessing housing suitable for their income. This situation poses an urgent demand to accurately assess the income levels and housing affordability of migrants, in order to propose appropriate solutions. This study was conducted through surveys and direct interviews using questionnaires to collect data on housing demands, income levels and housing affordability of migrants in the suburban areas of HCMC. The main research contents include: (i) Assess the housing situation for migrant workers in the suburban areas of HCMC; (ii) Collect and synthesize data on housing demands, income levels and affordability of migrants in the suburban areas of HCMC; (iii) Propose some recommendations to improve housing accessibility for migrant workers in the suburban areas of HCMC.
