Abstract

This paper examines the critical role of Health Information Systems (HIS) in supporting strategic management within healthcare institutions in Saudi Arabia. As part of Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom has embarked on an ambitious digital transformation journey in healthcare, recognizing HIS as a cornerstone for achieving strategic objectives including improved patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and evidence-based decision-making. Through comprehensive analysis of current implementations and future prospects, this research explores how HIS enables strategic planning, resource allocation, quality improvement, and competitive positioning in the evolving Saudi healthcare landscape. The findings highlight both significant progress in HIS adoption and persistent challenges including interoperability issues, workforce readiness, and change management. The paper concludes with recommendations for healthcare leaders to maximize the strategic value of HIS investments in alignment with national health transformation goals.
